Composing and decomposing and recomposing and back and again. Working and reworking and stepping back from the work to magnify details and orphaned ideas. And again.

['aisikl] delivers numerous motifs and fragments, coming together in a seamless way that makes it impossible to tell which parts were effortlessly happening throughout rehearsal and which parts were premeditated in a sketchbook before entering the machine of sound editing. And back.

From scratch. Despite the uncountable songs, tracks and pieces available in the unreleased back list of ['aisikl], the 7 inch release on SueMi was no simple matter of picking two songs from the menu. After agreeing to do this record, the work had to fit and ['aisikl] locked themselves in with format, toolbox and sketchbooks at hand. Recomposing.

Listening to ['aisikl] feels like starting in the middle of something. Throughout one track you discover traces of an idea in one you had just heard. And going back to that track to revisit the idea, you only rediscover the place from where you left. In a constant process of re-rehearsal and experimentation, releasing a track feels almost like releasing it from the continuous process of reinventing the moment from where it stems. Decomposing.

'Requiem for John Fahey' came from such a circular motion of experiment and concept, toying with the 'Open C-Drone Tuning' from Fahey's own experiments until the ideas solidified to become a track and the 7 inch gave it a frame. Shortly after Fahey's death, ['aisikl] added the lyrics and chose a title to embrace both, dedication and a reference to the numerous 'Requiems' Fahey himself had been. Composing.

(2 tracks | 7" vinyl | rec01/2003)
